
Katie Braude
Katie Braude is executive director of Speak UP and founder of
Katie Braude Consulting, providing support to organizations and efforts seeking to achieve equity in public education. She is also a former member of the Los Angeles County Board of Education, and she served as a senior consultant to Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors for strategic planning, development and communications. Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors is the nation’s first evidence-based leadership training program developed by and for Latino parents of 0-5 year old children. In the 1990s Braude helped lead parents and teachers in the launch and implementation of a charter school complex in Los Angeles. She served as Director of Advancement to the KIPP LA Schools from 2005-2010. Katie served for six years as a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Education (LACOE). LACOE monitors the fiscal solvency for all 80 school districts in LA County, provides education for students in the County juvenile justice system, oversees California’s largest Head Start grantee program, and delivers a wide range of professional and technical assistance to the county’s school districts. Katie Braude holds a B.A. in government from Smith College, M.A. in aesthetic education (Music Emphasis) from American University and M.A. in public health from University of California, Los Angeles.
