Ama Nyamekye is executive director of Educators 4 Excellence: Los Angeles. Nyamekye grew up in Las Vegas, but spent some of her childhood in California. A proud product of public education, Ama’s favorite teacher—the woman who inspired her decision to teach—was Ms. Higa at El Rincon Elementary school in Culver City. Ama went on to become a New York City Teaching Fellow who taught English in The Bronx and Brooklyn. In addition to completing her master of science in teaching at Pace University, Ama also holds a master of science in strategic communications from Columbia University. Ama has founded Rose from Concrete, a program serving court-involved youth in Boston and Turn the Page, a library and literacy project that serves seventeen prison libraries and classrooms in California.
