‘All Kids Matter and Can Be Successful’

Liz Dozier, principal of Christian Fenger Academy High School in Chicago, is all too familiar with the Belief Gap—a lack of faith some have in the ability of children of color to succeed in school. Regardless of their circumstances, Dozier is devoted to giving all children a chance.
I think the second secret sauce is really having a staff that is philosophically aligned with the vision of the school that all kids matter and can be successful. If the adult doesn't care, doesn't push the kids forward, it stops right there.
Dozier rose to national prominence in the Robert Redford-produced documentary series, “Chicagoland,” for her unwavering commitment to her students in the face of deep poverty and devastating violence through an emphasis on restorative justice, a process that enables victims and victimizers to work together to address trauma.
