New Test Results in Three States Beat Projections

Preliminary results from three states administering Common Core-aligned tests, Idaho, Oregon and Washington, show better than expected outcomes in every grade in reading and all but one in math. The tests are given to all students in grades 3-8 plus once in high school in both reading and math. Results exceeded projections based on last year’s field tests by as much as 30 points. In all three states, students fell short of projections only on the 11th grade math test. Idaho, Oregon and Washington are among the 21 states administering the test created by the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC). States have not yet released results for schools or individual students or subgroups, such as low-income or minority students or students with disabilities. Results from the 12 states in the other testing consortium, the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), will be available later in the year.
