No African American Students Took Computer Science AP Exam in 9 States

Liana Heitin of EdWeek reports that despite the good news that participation on the AP exam for Computer Science is on the rise with 46,000 more test takers this year than last, that news turn to bad when we look at the number of black students. In an attempt to get to a more equitable place in terms of accessibility to the needed courses, the College Board is introducing a new course that will focus on a broader range of computing skills and allow for more flexibility for teachers.
The AP computer science exam has traditionally suffered from a lack of racial and gender diversity, and this year's administration was no exception.
