Charter School Enrollment on the Rise

Arianna Prothero at EdWeek's "Charters and Choice" blog highlighted some of the findings from a recent National Alliance for Public Charter Schools report. Namely, Prothero points out that there are currently six districts in the U.S. where 40% or more of students attend charter schools -- Kansas City, MO; Gary, IN; New Orleans, LA; Detroit, MI; Washington, D.C.; and Flint, MI.
The top 10 districts with the largest charter school enrollments each had at least 30 percent of their students in charters. Ten years ago, only New Orleans—which continues to have the largest market share at 93 percent today—met that benchmark.
