Josh Farris

Josh Farris is a 2019 alumnus of the University of Virginia (UVA). He graduated from the Curry School of Education and Human Development with a Bachelor of Science in youth and social innovation. Josh is a first-generation and low-income (FGLI) college graduate from a rural community in Southwest Virginia. Through his experience as an FGLI student in education, he has a passion for promoting equity and opportunity for FGLI students. In 2019, Josh co-directed AL1GN, a national conference for FGLI students. Before graduating, he used remaining conference funds to start a student-led organization for FGLI students at UVA. He also helped design a curriculum within the Frank Batten Public Policy school to empower FGLI students to advocate for institutional change at UVA. Josh continues to informally serve and advise students and others within the FGLI community. Until recently, he worked as an assistant at the UVA Career Center. Josh is currently seeking other opportunities to serve and promote equity in education for FGLI youth.
