Eva Moskowitz, founder of Success Academy Charter Schools in New York City, is known for having high expectations for schools and kids. That philosophy usually involves not accepting that something can't be done. As this story in Chalkbeat New York demonstrates, sometimes that requires going beyond normal operations to fix mistakes and make sure schools and educators have what they need to start the school year.
“Schools often take the view that if they have a problem, fixing it should wait until the next year,” she wrote. “I don’t believe that. If you waste a year of a kid’s life, the child will never get that time back.” Just a few days later, that philosophy was put to a test.
