Charles Taylor Kerchner of Education Week has laid out a five point peace plan for the Charter School War in Los Angeles. He concedes, "This may not be the best plan, or the only plan. But it's a peace plan rather than a battle plan that produces no winners."
Peace requires that the parties to this war get beyond their self-serving partisan scripts. Stop the mantras that charter schools are the province of "billionaires and privatizers," or that "charters are saving kids from failing public schools." There are no saints in this war, only interest groups, and real differences about those interests.
